Kellogg’s Away From Home division is expanding its existing partnership with Sodexo North America to deliver plant-based Incogmeato by MorningStar Farms Burger Patties to more than 3,000 locations. Sodexo, the world’s leading provider of catering, hospitality and food retail services, previously listed MorningStar Farms’ Spicy Black Bean Burger.

Incogmeato by MorningStar Farms is a new line of next-generation plant-based protein that the producer says “looks, cooks and tastes just like animal meat.” Its Burger Patties offer 19 grams of 100 percent plant-based protein that “sizzle, sear and taste just like beef.”

“We’re excited to expand our partnership with Kellogg’s Away From Home to offer our meat-loving customers who want to make more sustainable and plant-based choices without sacrificing what they love about meat, a plant-based protein that is a good source of iron, fiber, and vitamin B-12, as well as protein,” said Rob Morasco, Sodexo’s senior director of culinary development. “More people are exploring plant-based food options and we’ve seen a growing demand in our industry.”

While two-thirds of Generation Z consumers and more than half of Millennials say they’re interested in plant-based protein, according to a CPP IFMA Datassential 2020 survey, one size does not fit all. Sixty percent of those polled prefer plant-based proteins, such as the MorningStar Farms Spicy Black Bean Burger, while the remaining 40 percent actually prefer a “just-like-meat” experience. Sodexo’s decision to add the Incogmeato Burger Patties to its menu is meant to satisfiy the latter by delivering a meat-like experience that customers can enjoy. The are now being distributed to the US healthcare sector, with an expanded rollout to other institutional and foodservice segments planned.
