Lineage announced on September 8 that its Murcia cold storage facility has been authorized as a Customs Bonded Warehouse (Depósito Aduanero). This marks the company’s first bonded warehouse in Spain and further expands its network of customs-enabled facilities across Europe.

With a bonded warehouse designation, Lineage’s Murcia facility allows import customers to store temperature-controlled food products under customs supervision until they are ready to be released to the market. Importers benefit from greater flexibility in their go-to-market strategies with the ability to hold inventory while awaiting duty and quota resets or regulatory clearances. They can also time market entry around pricing conditions, reducing unnecessary duty costs and improving supply chain efficiency.

Structured bonded warehouse operations also enhance compliance and traceability by improving inventory control and supporting audit readiness. Combined with Lineage’s cold chain capabilities for refrigerated and frozen food, the Murcia facility helps customers maintain product integrity and reduce quality risks.

“The bonded warehouse certification in Murcia reflects continued investment in our European network” said Daniel Rejón, director of business development for Southern Europe at Lineage. “By combining customs-controlled storage capabilities with our temperature controlled infrastructure, Lineage is continuing to provide customers with the flexibility and resilience needed to successfully operate in an increasingly dynamic global trade environment.”

Strategically situated in southeastern Spain, Murcia serves as a gateway for temperature-controlled distribution across the country and wider Europe. Reliable highway connections provide efficient access to central Spain, including the Madrid metropolitan region, one of the country’s largest consumption markets. Positioned near the key Mediterranean ports of Cartagena, Alicante and Valencia, the facility offers customers flexible routing options, strong reefer infrastructure and rapid transfer to temperature-controlled storage.

For international supply chains, connectivity through Algeciras – Spain’s primary trans-shipment hub linking Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas – provides customers with access to major global trade lanes. The Murcia authorization brings Lineage’s European bonded warehouse network to more than 50 facilities.
