The Controlled Environment Building Association (CEBA) has named Stellar of Jacksonville, Florida, USA and Maple Reinders Constructors Ltd of Ontario, Canada the winners of its “CEBA Built By The Best Award,” which is regarded as the definitive prize for innovative controlled environment construction projects.

The awards were presented during the recently held CEBA Annual Conference and Expo in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The Association is a member of the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA).

“Congratulations to Stellar and Maple Reinders, which emerged from an extremely competitive field,” said GCCA President and CEO Sara Stickler. “CEBA members are the experts in building and delivering facility innovation for the cold chain.”

Stellar won the award in the Over $35 Million Project category for its state-of-the-art 136,000 square foot, 140-foot tall frozen food storage facility extension in Russellville, Arkansas for Americold Logistics (pictured above). The project included an ammonia refrigeration system, insulated metal panel exterior walls, automated truck unloading system, fire protection system, and an advanced automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) with gantry and loop connections linking the warehouse to the loading docks.

“This award highlights our leadership in Design-Build ASRS and our commitment to delivering innovative, client-focused solutions,” said Wyatt Payne, senior vice president of Stellar’s food logistics division. “Partnering with Americold, we developed an advanced design that not only meets their needs but also strengthens their ability to serve clients.”

Maple Reinders Constructors Ltd won the Under $35 Million Project award for its 160,000 square foot, multi-use warehouse built for Dot Foods Canada in Ingersoll, Ontario (pictured below). The facility boasts a freezer, cooler/cold dock, ambient storage, production area, office space and a number of project management and technology innovations, including a sustainably conscious CO2 refrigeration system.

“Thank you to CEBA for this recognition. It is very meaningful as we are very proud of this project and grateful to Dot Foods for the opportunity to deliver it together,” said Jason Sabourin, Maple Reinders’ food and beverage project director. This was truly a collaborative design-build effort and we are thankful to our design team, sub-contractors and our field and management team that ensured the project was delivered safely and successfully. This facility represents a huge milestone for Dot Foods and its presence in Canada. It will be a great source of jobs and service to the local community for many years to come.”
