The Tillamook County Creamery Association (TCCA) in Oregon is releasing a seasonal lineup this summer for customers seeking balance among frozen savory and sweet ice cream. Its Salty Caramel Pretzel treat is made with a base of salted vanilla ice cream churned with chocolaty covered pretzel bits and a ribbon of salted caramel, while Apple Crisp features vanilla ice cream with baked oatmeal streusel and crisp apple pieces.
“When dreaming up the new Salty Caramel Pretzel recipe, our R&D team spent hours testing the combination of salted caramel and chocolate covered pretzels in our extra creamy vanilla ice cream to make this decadent flavor that’s perfect for summer,” said Hunter Clayton, the farmer-owned dairy cooperative’s senior research and development associate scientist. “To create the Apple Crisp flavor, we used a recipe from my mother as a base to help us translate apple crisp into ice cream. We all know the smell and unforgettable taste of a warm apple crisp, and what better way to tap into that nostalgia than with a homemade recipe.”

Meanwhile, there’s good news for Tillamook fans of previous limited-edition Orange & Cream and Campfire Peanut Butter Cup favorites. Due to popular demand the flavors are returning to freezer shelves to join TCCA’s core range of ice creams distributed in family-size containers all year long at Kroger, Albertsons, Safeway, Publix, Ahold Delhaize and other supermarkets and grocery stores in the United States.
Founded in 1909, Tillamook is known for award-winning cheese and cream cheese spreads as well as premium ice cream, butter, yogurt, sour cream and frozen meals. The cooperative operates production facilities in Tillamook and Boardman, Oregon, and employs more than 1,100 people.
