Tindle Foods announced the retail debut of its frozen faux chicken products in Switzerland on January 9. Now available exclusively at 440 Coop supermarkets nationwide are the plant-based brand specialist’s Tindle Burgers, Crispy Fillets, Nuggets and Wings.
Widely known in Switzerland for its long history of providing consumers high-quality products, Coop operates the largest supermarket chain in the country and is committed to long-term sustainability goals. The Group’s recently released research on plant-based food demand found that last year 63% of people of the domestic population was actively engaged in reducing consumption of meat, and that the overall demand for meat substitutes has increased 350% over the past five years.
The launch of Tindle Chicken at Coop arrived just in time to coincide with Veganuary, the annual period when consumers are encouraged to eat plant-based foods during the month of January. The campaign is largely aimed at non-vegans and flexitarians looking to adopt more sustainable food habits.
“Introducing Tindle to the Swiss market is an important step for us, as the country is a global leader when it comes to sustainability and preservation – with long-term goals to reduce carbon emissions,” said Marc Sohier, senior vice president of business development at Tindle Foods.
“We are continually monitoring the market along with the latest trends and plant-based products that are being developed. Not only are Tindle’s chicken products innovative, but they are in line with what consumers are looking for,” said Martin Stutz, product purchasing manager for vegan and vegetarian alternatives at Coop.
Tindle’s line of plant-based retail products was developed in collaboration with the company’s R&D team and chefs across Europe, Asia and the United States to bring an elevated restaurant-quality culinary experience into home kitchens. Next Gen Foods is the Singapore-headquartered maker of plant-based Tindle brand frozen faux chicken meal kits and components.
The range listed at Coop stores and available at its online storefront includes the following:
Tindle Burgers, breaded faux chicken patties that can be prepared in under five minutes for desired burger combinations or served as a base for Chicken Parmesan or Chicken Milanese main dishes; Crispy Fillets, best served on their own or with a dipping sauce, as well as presented as an accompaniment to fill in wraps or tacos; Nuggets, convenient and bite-sized, they are tasty on their own or can become a versatile and adaptable base for numerous dishes including pastas, burritos, or curries; Wings, these plant-based versions of chicken wings can be enjoyed as is or topped with one’s preferred wing sauce as part of a savory meal.
“We are eagerly awaiting feedback from Swiss consumers on Tindle Chicken, especially during the month of Veganuary. It’s our aim to demonstrate that choosing a more sustainable option involves no sacrifice in terms of quality and enjoyment,” said Borna Bayat, the company’s chief marketing officer.
