The Hillshire Brands Company, a subsidiary of Springdale, Arkansas-headquartered Tyson Foods, is recalling approximately 58,000,000 pounds of corn dog and sausage on stick products that may be contaminated with extraneous material, specifically pieces of wood embedded in the batter, the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced on September 27.
The items in question, produced between March 17 and September 26, 2025, bear establishment number “EST-582” or “P-894” printed on packaging. These SKUs were ordered online and shipped to retail and foodservice locations across the USA. They were also sold to school districts and Department of Defense facilities nationwide.
The problem was discovered after multiple consumer complaints were received, five of which involved injuries. The Hillshire Brands Company conducted an investigation and determined that wooden sticks entered the production process prior to product battering.
FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ freezers or refrigerators, along with school and institution refrigerators and freezers. The corn dogs and other items should not be eaten, but thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for a refund.
