A US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) press release issued on January 25 announced a recall of 400g (14.1oz) packages of frozen Daim Almond Cake with Chocolate and Crunchy Caramel produced by Almondy AB. The action is limited to cakes distributed to IKEA stores, bearing batch code L2140, and a “best before” date of November 18, 2023.

Torslanda, Sweden-headquartered Almondy urges consumers who bought the product to either return it to the place of purchase for a full refund, or to contact the company at www.almondy.com. The issue prompting the recall stems from the discovery of a metal object in one cake.

“At Almondy the quality and safety of our products is our number one priority. We take the incident very seriously and as a precautionary measure we are therefore recalling products purchased at IKEA stores, with the batch code stated above. We have identified what measures to take to prevent this from happening again,” said Margareta Johannesson, the company’s quality director.
