Cappello’s Taps Turnips to Make Ketogenic Certified Frozen Pizza

Cappello’s has unveiled a Keto Certified frozen pizza. The new product joins the Denver, Colorado-based company’s roster of nutritious low net carbohydrate pizzas made to deliver authentic flavor and texture along with healthy fats and high fiber.

While Cappello’s has traditionally made almond flour the star of its grain-free product range, this line of plant-forward pizzas introduces turnips as a new lead ingredient. The company’s marketing department says it is the first consumer packaged goods brand in North America to identify and leverage turnips in a frozen meal. Compared to other root vegetables, the small but fleshy turnip is low in carbohydrates but nutrient-dense in fiber, iron, Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin C, vitamin B and calcium.

Cappello’s is known for producing flavorsome, better-for-you frozen food products that rival classic recipes, and this new range is no exception. The Keto Pizza Crust serves as a foundation for consumers to build keto-friendly creations such as Whole Milk Mozzarella Keto Cheese Pizza (nine grams of net carbohydrates per half pizza) and Keto Buffalo Ranch topped with Roasted Cauliflower (eight grams of net carbs per half pizza).

“Not only do these delicious pizzas meet the basic nutritional desires of keto enthusiasts, keto diet dabblers, general low carb seekers, and health conscious consumers, they are also crafted to satisfy the way a classic slice of pizza would,” said Ben Frohlichstein, the company’s co-founder and co-chief executive officer. “Our country has a love for pizza baked into our cultural DNA, and our team has taken inspiration from that and from those trying to do something better for themselves through their diet.”

Cappello’s Keto Pizza Crust and topped pizza varieties are priced at $7.99 and $10.99, respectively, at Whole Foods Market and select Kroger stores including Mariano’s, Ralphs, Fry’s and Smith’s Food and Drug.
