Northamptonshire, England-based frozen food distributor Central Foods has extended its range of free-from products for the foodservice sector by launching four new vegan jackfruit-based products from Jack & Bry ahead of Veganuary 2021. The move comes as demand for meat-free and plant-based products continues to rise in the United Kingdom.

Newly available are Jack & Bry sausages, burger patties, sausage coins and pepperoni slices – all made from nutritious jackfruit, which offers a meaty texture and taste while also being low in calories and high in fibre. All four products are also gluten free.

“Jack & Bry’s jackfruit products offer a great way for foodservice operators to expand their vegan and gluten-free menus,” said Gordon Lauder, managing director of Central Foods. “The pepperoni slices make superb toppings for vegan pizzas, while the sausage coins are ideal for making the ultimate meat-free feast pizza, although each works just as well in toasties and sandwiches. Both the jackfruit sausages and burgers are perfect meat-free alternatives on any menu.”

Lauder pointed out that demand for vegan food has been growing for some time but this has increased recently in Britain, with a survey of those who took part in Veganuary 2020 revealing that 32% were eating more vegan food as a result of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic.

Jack & Bry’s plant-based faux meats have been developed specifically to recreate the taste, texture and flavor of real meat counterparts. The company specializes in jackfruit product development and recently revealed that it had sold more than 20 million plant-based pepperoni slices since launching in 2019.
