Honey & Fig Scoops Two Stars in Great Taste Awards Contest

For the eighth year running, New Forest Ice Cream is celebrating success in the most prestigious food and drink competition in the United Kingdom, The Great Taste Awards. The Hampshire, England-based ice cream producer has received a Two Star accolade for one of its new 2019 flavors: Honey & Fig. Two gold stars are awarded for products that judges consider to be “above and beyond delicious” and “outstanding,” and are presented to less than 15% of all entries.

The Great Taste Awards, organized by the Gillingham-based Guild of Fine Food, celebrates the best in food and drink from the nation’s independent farms, producers and manufacturers. Products are blind-judged on flavor, texture and appearance by a panel of over 500 industry experts.

Judges collectively praised the New Forest Ice Cream entry as follows: “Wonderful distribution of fig, giving this a great appearance. The texture was lovely and smooth, with a great contrast from the crunchy fig. The flavors were superb – not overly sweetened, but with a lovely rich, aromatic flavour of the fig, and some floral character from the honey to give this ice cream a wonderful balance and depth.”

Commenting further, they remarked that on its “light creamy texture, and good honest flavor” which “featured the fig well, both in taste and texture,” while admiring the “balance and tone of the honey in conjunction with the other flavors.”

Christina Veal, director of New Forest Ice Cream, is very pleased to add another award-winner to the company’s collection.

“The Great Taste Awards is often described as the Oscars of the food and drink industry, so to win and compete alongside some of the UK’s very best producers is a huge honor for us,” she said. “Honey & Fig ice cream is one of the newest flavors in our range and we are delighted to have its quality reaffirmed by the panel.
