As host city Los Angeles along with National Football League fans around the USA and beyond await the NFL’s 56th Super Bowl championship game on February 13, Walnut, California-headquartered Filipino-American supermarket operator Island Pacific is heating up sales of Filipino-style frozen fish balls by holding its first ever SuperBall Fish Ball Eating Contest a day before the big game.

In partnership with Mekeni Food Corporation and the SoCal Filipinos Community, the grocery chain will award $1,000 in cash to the SuperBall Champion who can eat the most Mekeni brand fishballs in one minute. The runner-up will receive $500, and three other finalists will receive a consolation prize of $100 each.

“The contest is open to everyone who loves Filipino Street Food, enjoys watching the Super Bowl, wants free food and instant cash, or just needs something fun to do over the weekend. Basically, anyone can join so long as they’re ready to eat dozens, or even hundreds, of fish balls,” according to a press release issued by Island Pacific.

To qualify for the SuperBall Finals on February 12, interested participants must do the following:

  1. Purchase Mekeni Fishballs at their local Island Pacific store using their Bonus Rewards card.
  2. Capture their own video eating as many Mekeni fishballs as they can in one minute.
  3. Upload the video and sign up here: bit.ly/islandpacificsuperball.

Registration is open until February 9 at 11:59 PM PST.

Island Pacific will shortlist the top five SuperBall finalists who will make it to the SuperBall Finals on February 12, 12 noon, at the selected Island Pacific store in Southern California. Filipino celebrities Donita Rose and G Töngi are expected to host the final competition.

Founded in 2000, Island Pacific operates 16 supermarket outlets serving communities in California and Las Vegas. Mekeni Food Corp., in business since 1986 and headquartered in Balubud, Pampagna, is ranked among the largest manufacturers of value added food product in the Philippines.
