KaterBake Belgian Waffle Recipe Adapted to Appeal to Vegan Market

Frozen food distributor Central Foods has announced that a slight recipe tweak of its popular KaterBake Belgian Waffle has broadened its appeal to include vegans. Ideal for fast food restaurant menus, street food venues and even plated menus, the waffles may be served at room temperature or warm with a dairy-free cream or ice cream topping, as well as with fruit and vegan chocolate sauce.

The individually wrapped product has a 45-day defrosted shelf life. The waffles are made in Belgium with traditional pearl sugar, which caramelizes on heating to yield an especially rich, sweet flavor.

“The increase in demand for vegan options continues, and it therefore makes perfect sense to tweak recipes wherever we can to make them suitable for vegans and thus ensure that our products cater for as many customers as possible,” said Gordon Lauder, managing director of Central Foods.

The Northamptonshire, England-based distributor supplies a wide variety of frozen products to the foodservice sector. Founded more than 25 years ago, the company sells to restaurant and pub operators as well as hotels, schools, care homes, garden centers and leisure outlets. Its clientele includes more than 180 independent wholesalers, as well as larger national and regional wholesalers.
