Lamb Weston Strikes Silver and Gold with Hot2 Home Fries

“Silver and gold, silver and gold. Everyone wishes for silver and gold…” – and for frozen potato products producer and marketer Lamb Weston, both wishes have come true.

The lyrics above, composed by songwriter Johnny Marks and popularized by singer Burl Ives in the “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” Christmas soundtrack album recorded in 1964, could well figure into a catchy theme song for an upcoming Lamb Weston Hot2Home fries promotion in the United Kingdom.  That’s because the product concept has won silver and gold prizes in two major contests in Britain within the past several months.

Most recently, the company was presented a Silver Award in the British Frozen Food Federation’s (BFFF) Foodservice Product of the Year competition’s Best New Ingredient, Component and Accompaniment category. And back in March it received the coveted Gold Award during the Casual Dining Show’s Innovative Challenge.

The Hot2Home fries concept works in a winning combination of two parts: specially developed french fries feature an ultra-thin starch coating to ensure they stay hot and flavorful for a longer period of time; in addition, patented packaging keeps the fries hot and crispy for 20 minutes.

“It’s an honor to receive this recognition of our pioneering product, invented to solve the problem of cold, soggy fries – a wasted opportunity for operators in a skyrocketing home delivery market.  Hot2Home is an exciting, innovative solution that can boost sales, increase consumer satisfaction and create a more profitable home delivery business,” said Andrea Deutschmanek, Lamb Weston’s country marketing manager for the UK and Ireland. “Being inventive is part of our customer promise.  We understand their business, and are always exploring and imagining a better way.”

The BFFF’s foodservice awards are well respected throughout the catering industry, as all entries are impartially judged by representatives of the prestigious Craft Guild of Chefs.

“Our product awards are testimony to the dynamism and development within the frozen category,” said BFFF Chief Executive Richard Harrow. “Standards are exceptionally high, showcasing the very best in new product development and innovation.”
