Louisville, Kentucky, USA-headquartered Long John Silver’s has opened its inaugural restaurant in Indonesia. The two-story outlet in Gading Serpong, west of Jakarta, combines the chain’s traditional shrimp, salmon, cod and pollock menu with local flair to offer a unique seafood dining experience.

The design of the restaurant leverages Long John Silver’s familiar look, while incorporating localized elements, including the first ever 3D statue of its namesake mascot and parrot. The site features a free-standing drive-thru and 170 seats for dine-in customers.

“We have seen great success establishing brand recognition and customer satisfaction in Singapore, which encouraged us to look at neighboring markets for expansion opportunities,” said President Nate Fowler. “The delicious cuisine, paired with the newly booming fast food industry in Indonesia, provided an ideal option for our next venture.”

The restaurant features a spicy variant of the brand’s signature batter for fried seafood along with its original batter recipe. All offerings are available to customers for on-premise eating, take-out, drive-thru and delivery.

With extensive experience in training and operations of casual dining restaurants, the Indonesian franchise owner, PT Cipta Putra Nusantara, is well-versed in bringing fast food experiences to the region.

“From my first encounter with Long John Silver’s in Miami several years ago, I knew I had to be the one to bring the beloved seafood chain to Indonesia,” said Chandra Supandi, president director of Long John Silver’s Indonesia.  “Once I was presented with the opportunity, I felt it was destiny.”

The seafood restaurant operator plans to continue its expansion in Indonesia, with a second franchised location scheduled to come on line in Q4 2023. The goal is to open more than 50 outlets operating in the area in the future.
