Jeni’s Everything Bagel Ice Cream is returning to Jeni’s scoop shops in the United States on March 21 and will be available online at jenis.com. The cream cheese ice cream with a sesame, poppy seed, onion, and garlic streusel deftly delivers a creatively crafted balance between savory and sweet.

The rather unorthodox marriage of everything bagel seasoning and ice cream was consummated back in 2014, when the recipe for an everything bagel ice cream topping appeared in James Beard Award-winning ice cream maker Jeni Britton’s cookbook. In January of 2021 the product appeared in her shops and retail channels, opinionated consumers quickly dished out lively discourse both pro and con. Among the commentary: “Intrigued.” “Horrified.” “Skeptical.” “Tried it. Loved it. Confused by it.” “The worst thing I have seen in my life.” “Pretty damn good.” “Not at all gross.”

As it happened, the flavor sold out nationwide in less than nine days.

Founded in 2002, Columbus, Ohio-based Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream today  offers a wide assortment of pints (473ml) in the freezer aisles of supermarkets and grocery stores as well as at its more than 60 branded scoop shops. Flavors include Strawberry Pretzel Pie, Brandied Banana Brulee, Wildberry Lavender, Salty Caramel and Buttercream Birthday Cake. The “one-of-a-kind” flavors are made with Direct and Fair Trade ingredients and milk from family dairy farms.
