Win Chill Cold Storage recently celebrated completion of the second phase of its refrigerated warehouse distribution center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA, with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The 57-foot-tall facility boasts 54,500 pallet positions that maintain products at temperatures ranging from 0°F to -20°F.
“The first 205,000-square-foot warehouse was open for only a year when our customers approached us with a need for more space,” said Jeff Davis, president of Win Chill Cold Storage. “For phase two we added an additional 125,000 square feet of freezer storage capacity.”
Tippmann Innovation of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was the contractor for the initial project, so with the same experienced staff and construction team in place it was able to continue a seamless transition to complete the phase two expansion without disrupting daily operations. Along with providing construction and engineering expertise, Tippmann installed 812 pallets utilizing its patented Quick Freeze In-Rack Freezing System (“QF+”).
“Adding QF+ to our facility gives us a huge advantage. It cuts down our freeze time by 25% to 30% in a lot of cases, depending on the product,” said Davis.
Win Chill’s economic benefit to the community extends beyond the 100-plus new jobs that have been created. Situated at the intersection of I-90 and I-29 highways and linked to the BNSF Railway, the cold storage warehouse serves regional companies and acts as a geographical hub of logistics activities that move high volumes of frozen food products throughout the United States. The warehouse has 25 drive-through dock doors and five rail doors.

Meanwhile, Tippmann Innovation and Table Talk Pies in late February broke ground for construction of a new cold storage facility in Worcester, Massachusetts. The 0℉ freezer warehouse is being built adjacent to the dessert manufacturer’s 150,000-square-foot factory, thus enabling the streamlining of production and distribution processes as the plant will be able to produce at full capacity and store finished goods onsite instead of using outside public cold storage service providers.
