Frozen food product innovation galore is in store for 160,000 or so visitors from 194 or more countries expected to attend the SIAL in Paris from October 21-25. For those unfamiliar with the acronym of the biennial show that dates back to 1964, it stands for Salon International de l’Alimentation. That’s French for International Food Exhibition.

SIAL stand photo 01Paris Nord Villepinte is the venue for the flavor-filled event, which organizers enthusiastically promote as “the go-to inspirational meeting place for the entire food processing industry” – and for good reason. More than 7,000 exhibitors of ice cream, frozen vegetables and fruits, ready meals, seafood, meat, dairy, deli, beverages and much more will be showing their stuff in the spacious halls. They will feature products from 109 countries.

As always, frozen fare will be one of the star attractions at the fair. The list of creative companies from the sector is long. Among them are Agrarfrost, Ajinomoto, Ardo, Aviko, Crop’s, D’Arta, Daregal, Delifrance, Givrex, Greenyard, Herbafrost, Italpizza, Lutosa, Pinguin, Pomona, Poppies International, Surgital, Thai Union, 2 Sisters Stoorteboom, Vandrie Group, Wisenhof International and Industrie Rolli Alimentari SPA. Most will hold forth at stands in Hall 5.

Food processing equipment suppliers will also be on the scene, primarily in Hall 7. Several worth checking out are Urschel International, Tomra Sorting Equipment and Unitherm Food Systems.

Rolli Rolls in Victoriously

Sial photo 02Industrie Rolli Alimentari SPA will be coming to the show in especially high spirits, as the Parma, Emila-Romagna, Italy-based company has won the SIAL Innovation Award for its Pesticide-Free Frozen Vegetables in Paper-based Bag entry. Judges were impressed with the product’s overall green ambiance as well as the tasty and nutritious content of green beans, peas, minestrone sliced courgettes, cauliflower florets, spinach leaves, broccoli florets, mixed grilled vegetables, artichoke hearts, spinach and grilled aubergines.

Meanwhile, gold, silver and bronze awards will be presented to other victors during a special ceremony scheduled to begin at 6 PM on Monday, October 22, in Hall 6.

“All eyes in the food industry will be turned toward Paris in October,” said Nicolas Trentesaux, director of the SIAL network. “The food industry is one of the most dynamic industries in most G20 countries. By discovering new trends and business opportunities, participants will find the tools they need to achieve their objectives. SIAL Paris is a unique platform for stakeholders to test new markets, launch new products and meet today’s main players to discuss the challenges of the future.”

He continued: “It’s also a sort of laboratory. R&D departments from around the world frequently finalize their products in time to test them at the exhibition. Over 2,500 new products will be presented at the SIAL Innovation feature this year, inspiring the food and beverage industry even more than ever.”
