Gorton’s Seafood Processors in Massachusetts Ratify New Contract

Labor union members of UFCW Local 1445 working at Gorton’s Seafood in Gloucester, Massachusetts, have ratified a new three-year contract with their employer, a subsidiary of of Japanese seafood conglomerate Nissui. The approximately 240 employees make frozen fish sticks and similar products for Gorton’s, the primary supplier of Filet-O-Fish sandwich components to McDonald’s restaurants on the East Coast of the United States.

While specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed, a press release issued by the union stated: “Negotiators improved on their previous contract with meaningful wage increases, superior health insurance, more flexible paid time off policies, and clearer language around scheduling Saturday work by seniority. These hard-fought wins were secured after the company’s first offer was overwhelmingly rejected.”
