KFC Aims to Score Big Time with Kentucky Fried Wings Kickoff

Just in time for the football season in the USA, Kentucky Fried Wings have been introduced at KFC restaurants across the nation. The in bone-in product is available in the chicken chain’s original, unsauced flavor profile, as well in three sauce varieties: Buffalo, Honey BBQ, and Nashville Hot.

The menu expansion was trumpeted with the tagline: “Wings aren’t everything; they’re the only things,” which is a takeoff on “Winning isn’t everything; it’s the only thing.” The famous quote was first attributed to UCLA Bruins football coach Red Sanders during the 1950s, and popularized in the early 1960s by legendary Green Bay Packers head coach Vince Lombardi.

KFC’s initial rollout features four price points and quantity options presented to feed a single consumer or to supply numerous fans at tail-gate parties: six wings go for $5; a dozen for $9.99; 24 wings for $18.99; and 48-piece party pleaser for $36.99 (available via delivery only).

Now through November 24, customers in the United States will automatically receive free delivery on orders costing $12 or more when they order through kfc.com through Grubhub.com; Seamless.com, Grubhub’s NYC brand; or the respective brand apps. During this promotional period, free delivery will be available at more than 2,600 participating KFC restaurant locations (no special code needed).

Proclaiming that the days of waiting for hot wings, or needing to call ahead with an order are over,” Andrea Zahumensky, KFC’s chief marketing officer in the USA, added: “You would be hard pressed to find hot wings without the wait anywhere else. Kentucky Fried Wings are available on demand, revolutionizing the game day dining experience.”

Wings have become increasingly popular, especially as a convenient food choice during football season. The Washington, DC-headquartered National Chicken Council estimated that Americans would consume over 1.38 billion chicken wings during the 2019 Super Bowl, and according to a recent study by OnePoll and Moore’s Marinade and Sauces, average meat eaters devour nearly 18,000 chicken wings in their lifetime.

Coinciding with the launch of Kentucky Fried Wings, KFC has released “Rudy III: He’s Still Colonel Sanders But Now He Has Wings for Sale,” starring Sean Astin as Colonel Rudy. Television commercials began airing on October 13.
